What “Mad Men” Shows About American Pop Culture | The New Yorker (via kateoplis)
40 years from now I hope they have a character that works at a tech startup, takes a lot of medication, compulsively checks their tumblr account, tweets a lot and constructs/ thinks in memes at all times of the day. I hope they don’t romanticize or glorify any our faults, I hope they make it obvious that we were fully aware of the problems that we faced moving forward and did nothing about them for a solid decade or two. Yet despite our ignorance, we lived, laughed and loved. Also everyone dressed amazingly, had stunning facial features and great bodies. Maybe TV writing, spurred on by the likes of The Wire and Mad Men, will have improved vastly, thus improving the narratives that we select to tell in our television shows. Maybe, just maybe, this means that they’ll ignore our era.
I’m kidding but we all know that the show will be in Spanglish by 2050, welcome to the United States of América.
